Everyone I've ever heard say that Arty players are unskilled clickers, wouldn't last 2 minutes in an Artillery Vehicle in any battle, unless they were hiding. I'm tired of hearing that I have no skills because I play arty, so I've thought of some reasons why Arty players are more skilled than every other tank class in the game.

• Arty players know every map inside and out... every hiding place, every dip and hill, every rock formation, and every place an enemy might be hiding.


• Arty players know everything about the tanks you're fighting against because they have to in order to hit them and do damage.


• It takes teamwork to be a good Arty player, and for the most part, teamwork in pub games doesn't exist. Everyone is YOLOing and they don't care what happens to the team as long as they get kills.


• Most arty players aren't playing for kills, they are playing to take an enemy gun out of the fight... an enemy gun that is pointed directly at you.


• Arty players don't care about damage, they care about preserving their team's HP pool, while reducing the enemy's HP pool.


• It takes sometimes up to 10x longer to aim an artillery cannon than it does to aim the gun on your Light, Medium, Heavy or TD tank.


• It takes up to a full minute for tier X artillery to reload their single shell. The longest reload timer on any other non-magazine fed gun is only 26~30 sec depending on your skills and equipment.


• When you get pissed that an Arty stole your ****, just remember he doesn't hold it against you that he did 1500 damage to that [Insert Tank Name here], while you hid behind a rock and took a pot shot at the low HP tank for the final 150 damage after the arty had saved your life.


• Shooting an Artillery cannon and hitting your target on the move is nearly impossible.


• Artillery players are expected to sit in the back and watch, alone, while you run around trying to **** yourself running headlong into the enemy tank that Arty just warned you about.


• If your WN8 is under 300, regardless if you've played 1000 games or 30000 games, you don't know enough about WoT to judge anyone for their choice of playstyle.


• FV304s, Bishops, and SU series Arty drivers have to move around the map because they have a max range of about 480 meters... You can see detected tanks further away than that.


• Calling for fire on a target is fine, we Arty drivers will likely jump to it for the chance to take another gun out of the game... However, when Arty is spamming "T" to tell you who he is attacking, you should focus your fire on that target FIRST, because that's one less gun to worry about.


• If an arty isn't firing on the target you called for, he's either busy shooting another tank, busy moving into position to fire on an enemy, escaping pursuit because you aren't close enough to defend that flank, or can't actually hit the target you're asking him to hit.


• Arty players understand map awareness better than anyone else in the game. They are ALWAYS looking at the minimap, and always learning more about every map each time they play it.


• Arty players are exceptional battle commanders and can direct their team's fire to specific portions of the map, or to an entire flank.... the problem is, none of you tossers actually listen to Arty when he's telling you where the enemy is.


• Arty players know precisely where the enemy tanks are hiding, and if they are good, will tell you constantly that you need to focus your attention there. STOP PUSHING YOUR CHOSEN FLANK when there are no enemies present... they are pushing the OTHER flank, unopposed, and will win if you don't go back to base right now.


• My son just added, he's not an unskilled clicker, he's been clicking all his life, and is very skilled. =) And he plays Arty. He will also kick your [edited]playing Osu!


• Some arty drivers are scumbags, but most are not. Don't let a few baddies spoil the whole group.


• Arty IS historically accurate. In fact, most of the TDs in the game are also historically termed Self-Propelled Guns... The real Alecto has the gun mounted on the back of the tank, for example, and is Artillery, not a Tank Destroyer in practice.


• Strategic View (Top Down Satellite Mode) is necessary because in real life, Arty gun crews are given a set of GPS or map coordinates for where their target is located, have to dial in the coordinates with a series of movements to the gun, along with comprehensive land survey calculations and complex trigonometry, verify their information is correct, fire a spotting round, and then send their single round down range sometimes over a distance of 20-30 miles, all for the hopes that their target is still sitting in the same location it was when the information was presented. A single real life World War 2 Artillery shot could have taken up to 15 minutes just to get the target lines up before "Firing for effect". If you'd like the game to be more historically accurate than it is for Arty, prepare to fire only a single shot in a full 15 minute game.


• Leading a target in top-down mode is infinitely more difficult than leading a target in sniper mode... especially when the spotter loses sight of the target and Arty has to fire blind.

So next time you want to tell the team that Arty is unskilled and just a bunch of clickers, remember they are saving your life 90% of the time. When they pull the trigger on a target and there are 4 or 5 targets there, the one picked is usually the biggest threat to you and your team. Breaking modules, killing crew members, and disabling tanks will save your life, even if they don't actually **** the tank. You really have no idea how difficult it is to play Arty, especially the ones that have to be in visible range of their targets to be effective, unless you play them yourself. Of course, if you ever actually spent more than 10 games in any mobile Arty vehicle, you would never call them clickers again.
