The Big List: Vehicles that should be included in WoT some day
The following is a list of tanks from currently in game countries, in Alphabetic order, that could at some point be put in to World of Tanks. I am not including vehicles, such as the M56 Scorpion and the Chieftain that have already been confirmed for the game. This list is hypothetical, and some vehicles may very well never be implemented, while others may hopefully one day be playable. Also, arty will not be included because if anything, we need fewer arty.
I know that I am somewhat of a noob, but I am addicted to history.
P.S.: It appears that my pictures don't want to work, but they are quite easy to find on google, just google the tanks
World War Era
A1E1 Independent
The Vickers A1E1 was developed in 1922 as a replacement for the WW1 era Mark V heavy tank. It was armed with 4 Vickers machine guns in limited rotation turrets and a 3 pounder main cannon in a fully traversable turret. It weighed 32 tons, had a crew of 8, and had a maximum armor thickness of 30mm. Speed was surprisingly good, with a maximum top speed of 40kph or 25 mph, but this speed was rarely reached because of the vehicles heavy oil consumption. However, the project was abandoned due to high costs, size, and problems with command. I imagine that this tank could be implemented in game in a similar manner to the T-28.
A25 Light Tank Mk VIII
Basically a heavier, slightly slower Tetrarch with a 2 pounder gun and better armor, known as the Harry Hopkins after President Roosevelts confidential advisor. Roughly 100 were built in 1944, but never saw service. It did, however serve as a basis for the Alecto that we all know and love. It had a maximum speed of 48kph or 30mph and a maximum armor thickness of 38mm. It could possibly be a tier 3 light tank.
A30 Cruiser Tank Challenger
The main drawback to the Cromwell was the lack of firepower, so in 1943 the British Government decided to increase its firepower. They added the famous 17 pounder gun which required adding a larger turret and widening / lengthening the chassis. However, Armor was also increased to 101mm and engine power was 600hp to give the Challenger a top speed of 52kph/32mph at a net weight of 32.5 tons. Unfortunately, very few were produced as the Sherman Firefly was preferred. Possibly a tier 7 medium in a new British medium line.
A30 Tank Destroyer Avenger
Identical to the Challenger, but with an open topped turret and intended for the tank destroyer role until the Wolverine and Valentine Archer (coming in a later patch) became available.
A38 Infantry Tank Valiant
Conceived as a successor to the Valentine, This was a 27 ton heavily armored little bugger that weighed 10 tons more than the Valentine. 2 Prototypes were produced in 1943, one with a 210hp GMC engine and the other with a 350hp Rolls-Royce Meteor engine. The Valiant was VERY slow, with a top speed of 19kph/12mph, but with 114mm of frontal armor. I envision it as a kind of a tier 5 Matilda. *Evil laugh*
Char 2C Heavy Tank
During the First World War, the French army issued a requirement for a Char de Rupture, or breakthrough tank, with a weight of about 40 tons. 2 prototypes were produced in 1918, with ten being produced by 1922, by which time the weight had ballooned to 69 tons, more than a Jagdtiger. They were named after the ancient provinces of France. At one point, they were the most powerful tanks in the world. They were armed with a 75mm main gun, with 45mm of armor, although one was converted to carry a 105mm howitzer. It would, unfortunately, be the slowest tank in the world, with a top speed of 12kph/7.5mph. All of them were destroyed by the Germans in 1940. Im not exactly sure where this one would fit, Im open to suggestions.
Sentinel
In 1942, it was realized that the British might not be able to help supply its colonies, specifically Australia, with arms; so it was decided to produce a tank with easily obtainable parts. The hull and turret were mounted on a suspension copied from the French Hotchkiss tanks, while other various parts were copied from the M3 Lee/Grant. Various prototypes were armed with the 2 pounder, 25 pounder, or 17 pounder guns, and eventually over 200 tanks were produced. The Sentinel had 65mm of armor and a surprisingly high top speed of 48.3kph/30mph with a weight of 30 tons. The project was eventually discontinued after the tide of the war changed. I see the 17 pounder version as a tier 6 or 7 British premium, or the 2 pounder version as a tier 5 premium.
SMK Heavy Tank
The SMK was designed by Kotin in 1938 with 3 turrets, which was later reduced to 2. The higher turret housed the main 76mm gun while the lower turret housed a 45mm gun. The tank was used in the Winter War in Finland in 1939, where it was decided that it had insufficient armor and mobility. The SMK weighed 45 tons and was protected by up to 60mm of armor and had a top speed of 36kph/22.4mm. Obviously, the SMK could not be implemented until the multi turret feature is implemented, but could end up as a new tier 5 heavy tank.
Post World Tanks
AMX-30A (Prototype)
The AMX-30 was first produced in 1967 as a more powerful, but lighter replacement for the M47 Patton. It was armed with a 105mm main cannon. It was upgraded over the next 20 years many times and eventually over 3500 Amx-30s were produced. It was a 35.5 ton tank with a 700hp engine propelling it to a high top speed of 65kph/40.5mph due to a maximum armor thickness of only 80mm. Obviously, the AMX-30 would be a tier 10 medium, probably a French equivalent of the Leopard 1.
ASU-85 Tank Destroyer
The ASU-85 was designed in 1962 as an air portable tank destroyer based on the PT-76 chassis. It had a completely enclosed superstructure and an 85mm D-70 cannon. It was a very light vehicle, weighing only 15 tons, and thus only required a small 240hp V-6 engine to propel it to a top speed of 45kph/28mph. The armor was extremely thin, at 60mm, but was heavily sloped. I believe that the ASU could be a Tier 8 premium similar to the E-25, stealthy, with a quick firing gun.
Charioteer Tank Destroyer
The Charioteer was a post war development of the Cromwell chassis developed to replace the Avenger and Archer tank destroyers. It was armed with a 20 pounder gun, on a recycled chassis and with a new turret. It was very economical yet very powerful new tank destroyer. It weighed 28.5 tons and was powered by a 600hp Rolls Royce meteor engine giving it a top speed of 50kph/31mph. Unfortunately, it had only 60mm of armor and when the Centurion was upgraded with a 105mm gun, the Charioteer became obsolete and was removed from service in 1958. It might have a place in WoT as a fast tier eight TD, as it has the same gun as the AT 15.
HIMAG
The HIMAG (High Mobility Agility Test Vehicle) was part of a US army project to design an Air portable vehicle with enough firepower to support rapid deployment airborne troops. It had no turret, the 75mm ARES HiVe main gun was mounted in a barbette to maintain a low silhouette. However, it still weighed 40 tons but had a 1500(!)hp V-12 engine propelling it to a ridiculous top speed of 96.6kph/60mph. It was just a test bed and was never meant to be produced. I could see it as a tier 8 premium due the extremely high velocity gun.
