Tips about using XVM: Common Courtesy
Hello there. First, neg me. Then read.
Statement For Those Who Will SkipThe Entire Skizzle
XVM is like the weatherman in that it bases predictions off ofdata that does not account for all possible variables. Hard stats are not manipulatable, somost inferences will be based off of hard statsthey are consistent. However, consistency does not imply accuracy.I must point out that soft stats are very manipulatable while being much more numerous than hard stats, while being in cases, just as accurate. So...

Three Commandments of XVM:
Thou shalt notflame your team and ye rightful brothers for XVM, or ye shall be smited bydisgrace oftype ****.
Thou shalt not shake thy fist at XVM, lestyou rageand spark the ChatSpam War.
Thou shalt not relent in the face of defeat, lest the RNG gods be in your favor.

Overview
XVM is a well-known mod in WoT, and probablyone of the most used. The reason for its long-standing popularity liesin its ability to predict the possible outcomes of a match. Using hard, empirical data compiled from a tanker's battle record. This is already pretty awesome, for any player, but XVM (personally)isuseful in situations where:
a) Players are good. Unicum. Professional. 1337.
b) When teams are equally matched. Allowsplayers to make smarter decisions on the playing field as a result of being more conscious of the player compositions. This can potentially turn the tables of a match, with hilarious results.
Controversy
Now, the power of foresight cannot, under any circumstances, be underestimated. Knowledge is power, and power wins. An informed player always beats one that is in the dark, regardless of differences in cognitive abilities. The harmis that XVM is very polarizing to the WoT playerbase; some hate, and some worship, with very few people in between. Some say it is an unfair advantage in a fight. Others say that XVM is misused by ignorant players who cannot possibly be allowed to exist. To start, I will start ranting about random things below.
Hard Stats
Putting it broadly, mods relying on hard statistics are not supposed to be the sole indicator of a person's playing ability. However, it's worth a lot, especially in games where most players have a lot of matches (say, over 10000 to be rock solid). XVM predictssloppyoutcomes that contradict the initial predictions, however. This is because hard stats rely on the average performance of a player, not anything wholly specific to the present. The most likely place you will see "underdog carries"are in situations where players have fewer battles. New players are less consistent and more unstablein gameplay than "oldies." As it should be. Hence, some matches XVMcan be spot on, and others, it can be an imitation of Fox News.
Hard Stats steadily becomemore accurate over time, like aging of french cheese. So for you hard-stat crusaders out there, keep a look out forconvincing, stable, and properly weightedstats, not simply "statistical evidencezzzz from onlyz XVM cus itz best pwnerz mod."
Soft Stats
Likewise, smaller factors do apply in a player's skill. Such as:
The Weapon of Choice
Maybe in one match you may be driving your preferred tank, that T29 in your garage. Otehr times, you'll be playing on your figurative M3 Lee. Here, a unicum may lose; if the "worse" player is driving in his/her best tank, and the unicum does otherwise, in which casehard dataismeaningless. In relation, MM also influences battle results. Obviously a good player in a panzer can't do jack to a Maus, not matter how stupid the Maus driver happens to be.
Morale
This is where things get tricky. Because WoT is a game (duh) and games involve people, THERE IS SUCH THING AS TEAM MORALE. A bad start ora good start can affect a team's will to keep playing properly. This should be intuitive, or at least understandable. Now conversely, good results can make the opposing team reckless, and give an opportunity for the underdogs to gain momentum. As a person's winning mentality does not necessarily relate to his winrate.By any means, this is a soft stat.
Environment
Now, a Maus blocking a choke point is like God. A Tog wreckage blocking the bridge in pearl river is also God. An arty in an urban environment, not so much.
Luck and other Silly Factors that Troll People in the Game
RNG. Computer Lag. Map imbalances. Player positioning on the map.To an extent, matchmaking. Chatbox warfare.
Idiots
Trolls. Team Killers. ******* Drivers.Dirty Arty Scum Who ******* In Water.
Probability
Now, that should help some people. But now, the juicy stuff: Probability.
It is a scientific fact that humans are inherently irrational. Likewise, most humans don'tunderstandprobability. At all. For example, myself. And:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambler's_fallacy
People deceive themselves. The human mentality in a game is to winthat is, win with the least effort. Humans are not just competitive as ****, they arelazy. If you think you'll lose, you give up. If you think you will definitely win, you also give up. Thing is, people don't put consistent effort into each game. Especially if they have a techy thing telling them what might already happen.
I'll use an analogy. A 30% chance of rain means that it isunlikelythat it will rain. But should you be surprised if it rains? Absolutely not. Weathermen and meteorologists can detect hard stats; find that and they can make a probability. However, weather is a complex system that has a huge amount of little variables that still pull their weight in the results of any prediction. This iseven moreimportant when probability involves humans, who are just as complicated.
