Noob to noob random musings
Seen and talked to a few other new players online, and a few of you have been discouraged.
So random musings...
Read the guides. Yeah everyone mentions this but it can't be emphasized enough. I actually have reading list of guides and youtube videos I'm working through.
The amount of information/help/suggestions the community has put online is staggering. And it's all beneficial.
That being said
-Be able to adapt the guides towards your own abilities and playstyle. Some guides are fantastic all round. (Like Lert's and many of the commonly linked ones)
Some of them have excellent in depth knowledge and thought put into them, but they're not really for me. At least not at this time. Reading a guide that explains the finer points of conquering all in a T54 is not that useful simply because many of them rely on well developed crew skills.
Do not worry about climbing out of the early tier vehicles.
You will read a lot of comments about "taking your time" with vehicles and climbing tiers. It's kinda [edited],- to a degree. From my own experiences and those of everyone I've talked to, you start learning the game at T5ish. (T4-6 depending on vehicle).
Don't get me wrong, if you find the T1-3 battles are working for you (and I've had some great T3 ones I really enjoyed) then by all means stay. But there are almost as many poor players at T5 as there are at T1.
The difference is there are a lot of better players who are there to play, not just seal club. You can learn a lot from watching them **** you. You can learn alot from watching the better players on your team after you've been destroyed.
Be able to set your own goals and achieve them. Then set new ones.
You will read a number of comments saying things like "In a T7 game you should be able to score 2 million points of damage on the enemy, have your tank be completely submerged in water for 60 seconds and live, as well as restore your own sides destroyed tanks back to full health, in a T8 game you should do all that in the first 30 seconds of the match before you consider yourself competent" This is all [edited].
Here's the thing, I can get advice in one post that it doesn't matter if my team wins, because my damage per game is low, so obviously I'm not contributing.
In another post I'll be advised that my tanks might be so completely outclassed, that I should basically take hits for the team, put myself out in front of the important tanks so I draw fire etc. and not worry about scoring damage.
And both suggestions are valid, I have helped win games without scoring damage , and I've done 2K damage and not really influenced the outcome at all.
So you have to adapt the advice/comments to your own situation. Are you happy with your contribution to the game, and (be honest) did it matter?
Don't concern yourself with MM, you can't control it,everyone has to deal with it. Complaining about it at the start of the game doesn't gain you sympathy or any special favours.
You can play spectacularly (for your own ability) and lose. Recently my M26E4 had a game where I dueled with 4 enemy tanks over the course of the battle. I inflicted more than 2000 damage on them and kept all 4 tied up for the course of the battle. When this started there was one casualty on their side. When I finally lost I was the 15th tank destroyed, only one of those tanks has taken a shot at someone on my side. The rest of their 10 tanks had destroyed the rest of my team for 3 losses,
Could I have done better? Certainly, a good player would have done better and scored a couple kills. I bounced a few shots that should have been pen, and probably had many opportunities to shoot through weak spots that I missed. But for me, that was a good fight.
So I fought to the best of my ability and the team let me down.
It happens, expect it.
You have to develop a thickish skin. This one should go without saying, it's pretty much "welcome to the internet" but I still see people get upset.
People on the forums are fantastic, people in game are jerks.
You will get called a n00b, you will have players blame you for your team losing. You will have players at the start of the game complain about your n00bness or you win rate.
Most of the players who will call you this or whine about the state of the game with "all the noobs" ****. They're terrible. They're the armchair quarterbacks who drive off on their own and then park their KV1S in the middle of an open field so they can engage in long range duels against multiple Hellcats all the while berating their team for not joining them.
Out of all the players I've seen so far who had berated n00bs on his team, one was any good. Actually he (or she) was amazing. Wish I'd written down their name because they were the best hellcat driver I've seen. Would have loved to see if they had any game film.
So take constructive criticism, but ignore the n00b comments.
