I started playing world of tanks again about a month ago after a year long hiatus and continued to grind my churchhill VII.

Through many many games I've ended up with the Conqueror but still don't have the 120mm gun yet. I know once I get that gun that I will be doing really decent damage but the real question is was it all worth it?

I feel that the grind was much harder then it would have been with other tank lines. The Churchhill through the black prince were VERY tanky, very slow and I found the gun very lack luster. You could sit there and take a ton of damage but often had troubles trying to pen even mediums at times.

So I pretty much found you could do 1 of 2 play styles on those tanks.

1. Be a road block, sit there and soak up a ton of damage for your team and do very little damage back yourself. This is the strat I would often take on maps that it was harder to flank on.

2. Sit back and support. Even though the gun was hopeless to pen anything through the front you could always do it on the side. Taking this position would leave you for clean up most of the time if things went south for the rest of the team which was hard being that you'd often face tanks like KV-1S which could totally tear you apart.

Once you are get the Caernarvon things start to change a little (At least once you grind the gun for it). You can finally start penning tanks that are your level and even damage tier 9 and 10 some of the time. So you finally have a gun that can do damage consistently to other tanks however the alpha damage is super low which isn't really a problem until you get unfair match ups against t9's and 10s.

What else has changed? Well you actually have some speed now but the biggest change would be how tanky you are. Its a big shock to the system going from a tanky beast to getting penned even with perfect angling.

Overall its a much better experience on this tank then it was the others. I feel like I can properly do damage however going head to head with other heavy tanks will almost always lead to your destruction.

Now for the Conqueror, as I mentioned I don't have the 120mm yet but so far this tank is the exact same thing as the Caernarvon except armor downgrade to get the 120mm? What is up with that? Is that a historical thing or a balancing thing? I really feel cheated that you have to grind to get armor for your tank that Is actually worst the the teir 8 tank you just got out of.

Anyways all said and done are you guys happy with how the conqueror performs? Was it worth all the grinding just to get it? I know once I get that gun its going to be awesome but would I have been better off spending my time on another tank line that might be better all the way through?
