Low Tier Heavies in the Front Line, or not?
I guess most players encountered this situation from one perspective in the past:
I was driving my BDR and was put into a Tier 7 match on Airfield. Assuming that my survivability is negligible, I decided to hang back with some tank destroyers at the northern part of the map, in order to survive until mid game.
Everything would've been fine, but our Tier 7 heavies decided to do exactly the same and a single ARL 44 found himself alone in the northern heavy spot and started complaining about "camping heavies". I replied, that the BDR doesn't count as a heavy in Tier 7 matches. I refused to drive into the front line. I wanted to let the battle unfold a little before deciding where to engage in close combat.
As I should've known, my team didn't take these words kindly and started reporting me. I wouldn't care at all, because usually the people complaining have worse stats than mine, much worse. But I'm pretty sure, the ARL was even a reroller (even though he was only green) and should be more experienced than me. Thus I'm doubting my own decision making.
My question:
When you drive a heavy tank against tanks two tiers above you, are you supposed to still drive into the front line, or should you take a more supportive role?
How about lesser armored support heavies like BDR, VK 30.01 H, etc?
If anyone is interested, here's the replay: replay-downlod Edit: WoTreplays-link
I know, that I didn't play well in this game and did a stupid decision at the beginning. I just want to know wether their complaints were valid or if they were just salty.
