Any tips on T-34 medium playstyle
Hello fellow tankers,
I tried searching the subreddit but I haven't found much on this topic. Basically my story is I'm grinding T-34 (russian medium) and coincidentally chinese medium by the same name (Type T-34) and two tanks are very similar.
However, what I'm not quite sure on is what is the typical play style for a medium tank? I've played scouts and heavies with success multiple times, but it's this middle ground between the two that eludes me.
Perhaps the problem is really poor armor and mobility on T-34, but seeing how the tank only has like 45-55 armor all around, at Tier 5 that leaves very few tanks that won't penetrate you - so taking hits or brawling is really a bad idea with these tanks. At the same time, the tank is quite slow even fully upgraded engine and tracks don't get enough mobility to get into positions quickly or to accelerate to move cover to cover to flank heavies.
My only conclusion from looking at the guns is that these tanks are meant to engage from long to medium range and from hard cover or serious bush to stay undetected. Very much like TDs, but then how is a medium tank different from soft armored TD?
I've seen other tanks akin to M4, Pz IV and VK36.01H, who are much more sturdier tanks with much more impressive armor and heavier hitting guns (although their RPM suffers). Such types of tanks are much more effective at short range engagements and city battles as they can maximize their damage output while minimizing their exposure. Unfortunately, T-34 doesn't seem to be in the same league, yet occasionally I see some people doing ridiculous amounts of damage using T-34 getting top guns and what not, while I'm netting about 3-4 kills at most.
So, what am I doing wrong? any general tips on tactics and strategy to use with these tanks? What should my general purpose be and where should I am to locate myself on the map?
Thanks to everyone in advance.
