Regret, and the high price I paid.
When I started this game in beta it was very new, fun, and completely free. If I remember right you even got free gold to go up the lines for daily play. Then came the hard whipe and reset for launch, then this became the most expensive free game in history.
By expensive I mean that in order to enjoy the game and compete you had to pay to convert your free experience. Some tanks and grinds were so bad that it was excruciating to play through them, not fun at all, and a game should be fun not work. Within all the trees there were " land mines ". You would play a tank that was just ok or good, get your experience to the next tank and wammo. A true game and fun executioner. A tank soooo bad that every ounce of your gut was in pain just to play it, and a fun game turned into a bad job. Who in their right mind would make you start with a gun with 165 pen that will only see tier 9 and 10 games? ( just a general example )
A game should be fun no matter what, that is why I play games, to have fun. When you put tanks in the lines like these, all the fun goes away. Unless.......... you pay to skip it or some of the stock modules. Even if you play for free, all the tanks should have a logical and reasonable chance to compete and be fun, not work, period. And if you do pay, it should not be for the sake of actually having to pay to skip a tank that is not balanced, but just moving up the line quicker as a personal decision or need.
I don't know if WG did this on purpose, but their are alot of tanks in the trees that the knowlegeable player base knows they are pure **** and no one wants to play. Good marketing move, or just coincidence?
Another trap I fell into was the " hey look at the cool OP tanks just released thing ". WG has had a huge history of sending out " tested " tanks, letting players spend money to get them and wammo, NERF TIME. They did this ALOT, again pure coincidence or just plain good marketing?
For the game to be realy enjoyable for more serious players you realy needed premium to advance and make some decent money. Nothing wrong with that. Except WG policy on its prem pricing was geared to make you feel stupid to buy anything less than the entire month. Only play on weekends, too bad, pay us 650 for 3 days, or just buy 2500 for the whole month. Not one single choice to actually use prem only for the days you actually play.
.
Their are a dozen more things to question. But in the end, I am the one who spent the money. WG did not force me.
But in the begining this was the only real game of its kind, and I just wanted to have fun. But that does not give WG the right to gouge people. This game was way, way, way too expensive to enjoy for what it is. And now I feel sick to my stomach when thinking of spending money on this game and regret about 50% of what I did spend over the last 3 or so years.
.
I realy wish the competition was around much earlier to keep WG in its place, keep prices to a reasonable level and treat its customers great, right from the start.
.
I know it can be done, their is another up and coming game that is doing some of those things right now. If only it came along sooner.
.
In the end, I take full responsibility for every dime I spent. If your new to this game, be very careful, and don't make the same mistakes of over spending on a product that is over rated.
.
Thanks................
