Super High-End System = Low FPS?
The very short story is that I'm playing on a Socket 2011 i7 4820K, 2400Mhz DDR3 RAM, and 2x 280x 3GB OCed graphics cards, but STILL managing to get as low as 10FPS in random areas of the game while 90+ in others.... yes, on Maximum settings, although I turn-off the motion blur and post processing due to the effect making my head hurt. I finished building my new PC right before the release of 8.10, so I did not get to test 8.9 very much with it... although I don't remember ever getting any major slow-downs at all even with one card working.
Here is some background:
I played this game for many years now, and I consider myself an advanced PC user/builder. I remember the introduction of the "enhanced" map rendering engine back in the early 8.X updates (or somewhere around there), and back then I was running an older AMD 1100T 6x Core @ 3.2Ghz with an HD6950 1GB graphics card. The game ran at a solid 45-70 FPS, averaging around 60 in most situations on MAX settings (8x AA).
Since then I had upgraded my system to an Intel i7 3770K running at stock speeds, some 16GB 2100Mhz DDR3 RAM, and a GTX680 2GBcard... I had VERY similar performance in WoT as I did before with the mucholder system... obviously very disappointing, but the game was playable and still looked great with additional graphics tweaking to 'enhance' the in-gamesettings to make the game look beyondawesome (although at the same 45-70fps).
Well, this last Black Friday came, and I built a new system to last me a while... socket 2011 i7 4820K (currently at stock speeds, but will be OCedwith water cooling), 32GB of 2400Mhz RAM (I'm assuming WoT can only use at MOST 4GB due to being 32-bit... so only the speed should matter here), and 2x XFX 280x DD Black Edition stock OCed graphics cards with 3GB each. I'm playing now on max settings with and without CrossFireXturned-on/off/forced to Optimize 1x1profile.The short story is that I get70-100+ FPS in most areas of most maps (literally 100% of the time if I stay in sniper mode), and then I turn to look in a random direction and my FPS starts to drop to as low as 10 FPS. What setting/effect am I missing that is completely incompatible with my super high-end system? I can play BF4 on ULTRA settings at 80+ FPS all day long, and technically even ONE 280x OCcard(basically a much faster HD7970 Ghz Edition card) should be complete over-**** for THIS game... I tried the auto-detect feature and it drops me down to minimum settings... I just don't get it.
Here is some general DxDiag info about my system:
