The Return to 9.0, and More
Hello again,
Back in January, my enthusiasm for WoT ran out so I decided to take a few months off in order to play other games. Well, a few months have passed and 9.0 is now out, so I have decided to make my return to WoT to see what has changed. I willbe going over a few different things concerning 9.0 and a few other WoT related items.
First off, graphics and performance. I am probably the silent majority on this one(As my computer isn't a toaster, instead its a microwave) because I like the new graphics and HD models. It is kind of awkward to have some tanks be in HD and others in standard definition but overall the tanks that are in HD look amazing. The new sounds(I think they are new.......) are really good and add to the overall atmosphere of the game. When it comes to performance, I have seen a slight increase in my FPS and currently run between 40-60 FPS in most cases. Also the maps changes that have taken place in my absence are also very welcome.Overall since my departure things have been improving.
Next, along with 9.0 WG have added the SU-85I into the premium shop. It was relatively cheap(At 13 dollars) so I decided to pick one up. I have to say, this TD isnt too bad.Even with poor accuracy, its RoF is good enough to stay at mid ranges and give amazing support to friendly tanks. It has decent mobility and it's penetration is just good enough to get the job done. The only thing that this tank struggles with is getting in close and spotting it's own targets. Once your spotters die, it's hard to continue being effective as you have poor view range and armor. Overall, it has it's spot on the battlefield and can make and excellent addition to most teams.
Moving along to a side note. WHY IS KOMARIN STILL IN THE MAP ROTATION? Seriously, this map illustrates everything that is wrong with WoT and it's horrid design can be easily seen. Most games rapidly turn into a mass camp fest, as moving outside the cap circle gets you destroyed by invisible enemy guns. 80% of all my draws have to take place on this POS.This map should have never been re-released and should be taken out of rotation IMMEDIATELY.
Last point. There has been much discussion about the automated team damage system that was put into place a few patches ago. I have seen many cases, on Youtube, where the person who starts the fight gets off Scott free, while the person defending himself gets punished and banned. While I completely agree that this system needs a LOT of work, I found one case where things are actually "Working as intended".
It has been a horrid night of games for me, I hop in my KV-220 in an effort to lighten my mood and end up on the map, Cliff. I help a T-150 push the east flank when I notice that our center falls apart. A friendly Crusader is, of course, telling me to come back and help him by being a complete d*ck. Since the T-150 was safe andby himself, I reluctantlyreturn to help, getting called noob and useless the whole way there by the Crusader. I finally arrive as the Crusader is fighting a KV-1s. He gets hit for 409 damage(I was smiling) and I begin to aim at the KV-1s. I was expecting the Crusaderto back up and use me as cover or head out to the right for a nearby building. Instead, like a [edited],he drives right out into the open, and consequently into my firing arc. I, of course, have fired at this point and finishoff the friendly Crusader with a total of 49 team damage(Soevil, although I felt good to finish him off). Of course, he spends the rest of the game whining, calling me a noob, calling me useless, and telling everyone to report me for such MASSIVE amounts of team damage. I tell him to **** off(Used a bit stronger language) and the game ends. He of course, takes the opportunity to message me after chat and continue his childish ranting by attempting tohammer me for my VILE act, of 49 team damage(Still was 1/2 way up the team list even with the team damage). Was it my fault? Somewhat. Do I care? No.Now I know thatthis automated system doesn't give a ****, because it was one hitfor such low damage that it doesn't even matter. And in this case, it is actually a good thing. I know there won't be a further review and I know that my account won't be banned for one accidental hit. So despite all the justified complaints about this new team damage system, I might have found one case where the systems ability to not act is the right thing to do(Had screen shots to upload, but ImageShack doesn't allow uploads without a premium account now).
So that has been my return to WoT over the past 2 days. Will I be staying in the long run? I don't really know yet, there are still some very pressing issues with WoT that will cause me to quit again if they are not fixed, but for now I will continue playing and try to get back into the swing of things.
Tl;DR:I like the changes that have taken place since I have left back in January. The SU-85I is a pretty decent tier 5 TD that I am enjoying. Komarin is still a map and that really sucks. And finally, I have found a case where the new automated team damage system did the right thing.
