An attempt of a legitimate comparison between WarThunder and WoT
I want to love WoT like I used to, but after playing WarThunder for a couple of weeks I find it impossible to do so. I'll start this by giving some back ground on myself: I began as every other pubbie floundering in the wild until about 5k-6k battles in I met a very helpful ex-fulcrum member who coached me into my green days. I lost contact with him for a while and slowly worked my way up into a top 5 clan where I sit now. I was thoroughly enjoying the game upon joining OTTER, but I have somewhat suddenly moved away from it in favor of WT. I will try to list my main grievances with WoT and WT and how the other game does it better/worse/the same.
I have been the TD/arty cancer that is killing WoT and I have been the medium driver that is desperately trying to survive in the current meta: http://wotlabs.net/na/player/zxft
ARTILLERY
This one gets everyone's jimmies rustled whenever it is brought up. The main issues with the current style of artillery in WoT is that it is a massive RNG cannon. It possesses the ability for a blood red doesn't-know-he-has-a-minimap pubbie to totally ruin a unicum's game where the only thing the unicum could have done "better" is camp harder behind solid cover. At the same time, I know that arty takes some skill since players like TD42 exist, but my general point is that arty is not the anti-camping mechanism that WG intended for it to be* and instead an RNG doom cannon that sucks the fun out of the game for everyone but the person that is clicking.
*In pub matches. In my opinion arty is good for clam warts (usually).
WAR THUNDER'S ALTERNATIVE
Artillery in WT is still quite RNG dependent, but the main reason I don't mind its existence is that the game notifies you when artillery has been called on your location. In this scenario, artillery is an anti-camping mechanism because you can call an arty strike on someone to force them to move, not necessarily to one shot them from the arty gods in the sky.
CRIPPLING ALPHA
WoT has slowly been introducing monstrosities like the WT E100 and Fv 215b 183 that can **** on a player's game for one false move. These tanks do NOT in any fashion encourage dynamic aggressive play that makes games like WoT enjoyable. I mean come on.... who enjoys 15 min of kormarin.....
WAR THUNDER'S ALTERNATIVE
One shots one shots one shots. Pretty much expect to get one shot by EVERYTHING you encounter. This can be extremely frustrating to a new/transferring player. In WoT there are specific tanks that possess this crippling one shot capability and its possible to adjust your play-style to accommodate for the presence of these tanks whereas in WT nearly everything can one shot everything else. However, and I stress this, one shotting tanks in WT is dependent on player skill. Knowing crew/ammo locations in WT makes you a killing machine.
IN GAME COMMUNITY
The in-game **** talking is painful in WoT. I tend to yell in WoT at other people for being bad, but I'll help someone if they legitimately want help. I am definitely part of the problem in this category for WoT. Sure, I can turn chat off. Sure, I can ignore players. But neither of these things stop people from being huge ******** (TKing, pushing out, etc.) in a way I haven't seen in WT (yet). Perhaps it is just a game maturity thing. I didn't play WoT in beta or upon release so I cannot give a direct comparison here, but my experience in WT has been far better thus far. I also think the lack of a WNx rating scale that is widely available in game makes everyone more relaxed in WT.
SPOTTING
WoT spotting is ******** and I think we all know it. I know the work arounds and in's and out's of the spotting system, but there are no words to describe a 268 cloaking up in the middle of a field 150 meters away other than 100% pure ********. Camo abuse is what separates the pubbies from the unicums, no doubt, but invisi-tanks that are in impossible to scout locations are no fun.
WAR THUNDER'S ALTERNATIVE
No spotting system at all in Simulator/FRB mode. Find the tanks with your eyes and shoot them.
END GAME CONTENT
This is why I haven't rage uninstalled WoT yet. I love CW and tournaments. I play on weekly skirmish teams and I just recently joined a silver league team. The inflow of gold keeps me playing (kinda) because I only play tanks I like and I never have to play anything stock.
WoT is the clear winner in this category, but WT hasn't really had time to come up with a viable endgame since their game has been out of closed beta for a month-ish.
OVER ALL
I feel like WarThunder is much more skill based and less RNG dependent than WoT and that is truly what is pulling me away. I rarely feel that my ***** in WarThunder is RNG's fault. 99% of the time it has been because I ****** up.
I want to hear the counterpoints and other people's opinions on this. Best case senario for everyone is that WG begins losing players to Gaijin and a mutually beneficial price war (for the players) ensues, but this is probably overly wishful thinking.
