Put Me In Coach: FV215B (183)
Hello /r/WorldofTanks,
Over the next few weeks I will be posting daily discussion thread focusing on Tier Xs and their usage in clan wars called "Put Me In Coach." The goal for this is to give new players an idea of how frequently and when tier Xs are using in clan wars, while also generating some interesting discussion. I hope this will allow new players to better focus on tank lines if they want to get serious in clan wars. These will be added to the WIKI for later use.
Drawing on my experience from RDDT and SIMP I will try and give an accurate understanding of how these tanks are used in high level clan wars. Please note that this will not be true for every clan as it is more of a generalization. Clans who are limited in tier Xs may use these more or less frequently, but for the most part this will apply to all land owning clan wars clans.
Please post why you agree or disagree, and with the way you have seen this tank used in clan wars.
Put Me In Coach: FV215B (183)
Pros: Huge Alpha Damage, HESH rounds which almost always damage crew. Turret
Cons: Reload Speed, Mobility, Accuracy, and Aimtime.
Clan Wars Usage: Situational, Infrequent Use on City Maps.
Optimal Range: Medium, Long if needed but hampered by accuracy.
Role: Deterrent
Average Per Team: 1 - 2.
Why this tank is bad for Clan Wars: Clan wars matches generally revolve around times and coordinated pushes or "flexes" of a large group of tanks. The 183 has a ridiculously high reload time, 30 seconds without a rammer, and is unable to effectively run away. Additionally, the turrets limited traverse means expose itself in city environments to get shots. Often the 183 will get to fire once before it becomes swarmed and ******. Even when it does get to fire, often the terrible accuracy causes for near misses if they target is at range. Many skilled teams will be able to recognize these disadvantages and **** the tank with ease. Unless you are in a medium tank, it is highly unlikely the 183 will one shot you from the front so charging it in a pack is often the best option. Public battles allow the 183 to fire and creep back to reload while the enemy team place peekaboo, however expect it to have no such luxury in clan wars matches.
How this tank is good for Clan Wars: Quite simply nobody wants to be shot by this monster. The prospect of losing 80% of your hit points from one shot is very daunting. When use correctly, this tank can help hold down a specific pathway from enemy usage while being a psychological deterrent. Very effective against bat-chats at medium range, 1 shot with HESH will often **** them instantly. The 183 should be used in conjunction with another tank(s) to prevent a small force from overwhelming the 183 on reload. If you are fighting on a city map and find an area which will allow the 183 to retreat and reload. This tank can be a nightmare for inexperienced clans to deal with if you play to its strengths and minimize its huge weaknesses.
What about pub battles? This tank excels in pub battles and is real blast to play. As stated if you play this in medium ranges with support you can pick off the enemies in pub battles all day because often they will not rush you while reloading..... you make them afraid. Ultimate fear tank.
Great Advice from /u/TWOoneEIGHT:
Another note for the 183 for CW is target priorities. If you are in a normal tank in CW then focus firing low tanks is paramount. In the 183 you have to purposely engage the targets with all/most health, only fire on a low health target if it absolutely requires. HESH is the proverbial haymaker, hit a T57 for 1900 and he can be taken down in 1 shot by an E5 for the KO blow. Like I said before the 183 is all gun and that is the only reason to bring it, if you waste your time knocking out 300 health targets with your 25+ second reload when there are vulnerable high health targets you are a detriment to your CW team.
